Our Beers

Kirkstall Pale Ale

This is our classic ale and one that was born out of our quest for uncompromising quality. A wonderfully golden session ale with fresh malt and hop aroma, leading to a satisfying bitter finish. Maris Otter dominates the malt bill, backed by heaps of Cascade and Centennial hops.



Three swords

The name is derived from the coat of arms used by the Cistercian monks of Kirkstall Abbey. Three American hop varieties are used in abundance to deliver a crisp, aromatic pale ale with clean and refreshing citrus-fruit flavours. The three C’s come together to give this pale it’s signature flavour: Cascade, Centennial and Chinook.



Dissolution IPA

Brewed in memory of the dissolution of Kirkstall Abbey and the disbanding of the Abbey’s Cistercian order. This is a classic India Pale Ale, with a resolute hoppy kick and lasting citrus finish. An American amber malt profile adds smooth caramel notes, balanced with Chinook, Columbus, Centennial and Eureka! hops.



Black Band

In celebration of Kirkstall Forge, the oldest forge in England, and named after the giant press that was at the heart of the operation. A full bodied yet beautifully smooth dark porter. Perfectly balanced flavours of chocolate and coffee enhanced by the mild herbal hop character. Deliciously dark.



Single Hop Session IPA

A balanced body with sessionable bitterness, showcasing different hops every time such as Simcoe and Centennial



Dexter Milk Stout

Our full bodied milk stout. Rotating flavours with each brew.




An extremely refreshing hazy session IPA made with different rotating hop varieties on each brew.



Developed and brewed in Belgium. A great raspberry hit leaves an incredible, but not overwhelming, tartness on the palate.




Light, zesty and floral, lagered for 65 days on Bavarian yeast. The addition of Loral hop gives it the signature aromas of lemon zest and flowers. The perfect after work pint.




Our session IPA has a clean citrus aroma that gives way to a fruit hop flavour. Flavours of tropical and citrus fruits, with hints of pine and blueberry are perfectly balanced by its complex malt base, giving it a flavoursome yet refreshing profile. Gluten free and vegan too.





A hazy, New England style pale with a punch of fruit flavours; peach, apricots, mango and lychee create a juicy taste from the use of Citra and Amarillo hops. A light pale with a slight bitter finish.



Fragola Basilico

An extremely refreshing strawberry, basil and black pepper sour. The sweetness of the berries is beautifully offset by the basil and a subtle kick from the black pepper. The perfect beer for a long, warm evening in a beer garden.



(Feb 2019) Remember picking berries in the countryside? Keeping an eye out for Dock Leaves as you try to avoid the nettles? These are the memories that inspired us to brew Hedgerow, a bramble nettle kettle sour. The tangy taste of blackberries and brambles brings a subtle tartness that softens with the delicate herbal flavour of nettles.




(Feb 2019) A raspberry Tripel combining fresh raspberries with a complex, delicate Belgian style. These flavours balance to give a slight sweetness that develops through spicy phenols and over ripe fruity esters. Elevation might have a high ABV, but it hides this quite deceivingly, making this the perfect beer for sipping.




(Jan 2019) Virtuous, bigger and adorned with Citra, Simcoe, Amarillo and Mosaic from the 2018 US hop harvest. The flavours of pine, tropical and citrus fruits have been refined, with a hint of blueberry, balanced against the malt bill with a smooth clean finish. Vegan and gluten free




(Mar 2018) Originally brewed for Hop City 2018. Packed full of Ekuanot and Mosaic hops, and a little Citra in the dry-hop, this Imperial IPA has aromas of blueberry, pine and tropical fruits that has a smooth finish from the malt base.



Brudenell IPA

(Oct 2017) An Amarillo heavy IPA, complimented by Citra, Mosaic and Azzacca hops. With a dry finish and low colour malt body it really lets the best of the hop flavours of citrus, pine and tropical fruits shine through.




(Kirkstall x Lervig) The first of two brews with our friends from Norway is a session IPA packed with hoppy, oaty goodness. Hazy and super soft with flavours of sweet pineapple, candied citrus peel and grapefruit. A beautiful combination of Citra, Denali and Amarillo, combined with the malt bill, containing golden naked oats and oat malt.



West Coast IPA

Two Tribes

With our friends from London we have brewed a classic West Coast IPA, with aromas of tropical fruits and the tang of sweet pineapple. This then develops, from the use of Denali and Azacca hops into a subtle piney bitterness to finish.



De Abdij & The Mill

De Molen

We invited our friends from the Netherlands to brew a cask beer with us. This Oatmeal Stout(ish) is rich and creamy, from the use of flaked oats and chocolate malt. The addition of vanilla nad bourbon barrel oak cubes intensified the flavour, with a light bitter finish.




Yeastie Boys

This Rye IPA has notes of tropical fruits, peach and grapefruit from the Comet and Amarillo hops. With lashings of Rye Malt that brings a lasting juicy finish.



Break Even

Verdant Brewing Co.

This American Pale Ale is unfined and hopped within an inch of its life, with Citra, Centennial, Simcoe and Amarillo. With a tropical fruit punch that is followed with a smooth finish from the malts and Low Colour Maris Otter.



Verdita Sour

(Kirkstall x Magic Rock) Originally brewed for Magic Rock’s Sesh Fest 2018. Inspired by those Tequila Tuesday evenings at North Bar — a longer, more sessionable version of tequila’s delicious best friend. With lime, coriander, mint, chilli and pineapple, this incredibly refreshing sour is light but bursting with flavour.

Imported beers

Formally Vertical Drinks, Kirkstall Brewery Company started as the UK’s first importers of beer from around the world, and their portfolio includes some of the best names from the UK and Europe.

As it is the standard practice in America, Kirkstall Brewery was one of the first UK wholesalers to keep all beers in cold storage, to ensure that the beer arrives as fresh as it left the brewery. Whilst our freshness policy of ordering from breweries ‘little and often’ drives us towards regular deliveries so that the beer arrives in your customer’s glass in peak condition. Distributing to many customers throughout the North of England, Kirkstall Brewery are proud to represent breweries from the UK and beyond.
